On Slate: Bus Pass for a Porsche

Why does this guy have a Christmas tree tied to his bike? Because he wants a Porsche and doesn't think they would let him take the tree on the bus. For the full detail on the green hot rod solution -- how public transportation can fund the gas-guzzler of your dreams while shrinking your carbon footprint-- check out the story today in Slate.com.

  1. Joe,
I just enjoyed your article in slate and wanted to thank you for saying what I've been telling my friends for a long time, a classic car is the way to go if you have the time/money and energy to maintain it. I've put 26,000 miles on a '76 TR6 since I bought it used for 5 grand in '98. Not a lot of miles per year but my commute is short and for four of those years I lived in DC and took the train. It gets 22 to 30 mpg and did most of it's environmental damage when it was built. I was 8 years old at that time.
I would urge you however to consider a classic British car, cheaper to buy and cheaper to maintain!
    good luck.
