“I hope they don’t have to go through what I did to realize it’s a problem.” So says Christopher, a 20-year-old who blew a red light while sending a text message to a bud and smoked a middle-aged woman. The New York Times details Christopher's texting adventure as part of a recent series about the inability and unwillingness of state legislatures and Congress to make driving while talking on cell phones, or even texting, illegal. Check it out if you want to scare the shit out of yourself, particularly if you ride a motorcycle or a bike.
For my money, cell phones equal fuel injection and Twitter in terms of shit we were just fine without (check out rumblenote on Twitter). What was Christopher texting when he killed the woman? He was letting a friend know about a dresser he saw at Salvation Army. That could have waited.
Hands free? It doesn't help. Check out the science. Some of you folks can't tune the radio or eat a Slim Jim without crashing. Put the phone down.
